Many things to do and see in Rome
Rome is a fascinating city with much history and culture, not to mention an archaeological paradise making it a favorite of many trips to Italy.
My site and I think it is a favorite of many others is, of course, the Colosseum, built between 72 and 80 AD, was the splendor of Rome for hundreds of years.
My second choice is the Pantheon, which was built in the 1st century AD by Emperor Hadrian. I find this very interesting building for several reasons. The dome is 142 feet wide, with no support beams holding it in place and the dome is made of poured concrete. The next thing that surprises me the Pantheon is the emperor Hadrian has designed and built the structure.
The Roman Forum is the next site, I liked the subtle and has served numerous. First it was the forum that you know today is a market with many sellers of goods ranging from food, clothing and furniture. The Vatican is a great place to spend a lot of time at home and not only that all great art in the church, but also has its own museum. The Vatican is also considered a country on its own and is listed as the smallest country in the world.
The Spaniard was one of my favorite places to see that it was a ruin, I liked the atmosphere. Santa Maria Maggiore is one of the many churches I really liked and could be considered a museum to consider how richly painted the entire interior of the church was, and many more inside. This spot has been popularized by the 1953 film “Roman Holiday” with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn.
Just across the road from the mouth of truth is the temple of Hercules is often confused with the temple of the Vestal Virgins, who is in the Roman Forum.
Tiber Island is only about a quarter of a mile away from the temple of Hercules, and is interesting in that it is a large island in a small river. Tiber Island is a nice place to see and take a day off.
